Customer Preparation for Service Installation

To help prepare you for service installation at your location, we have provided a checklist containing important site readiness information.

  1. Provide entry into the building
Please inform us of the floor and suite number of the demarcation point (the location where the local phone company wires enter your building). This is usually located in the main communications/phone room. Please note you may need to coordinate access with the building manager to ensure access is available on the day of installation.
  2. Provide the following in the demarcation room
Please specify whether you require our equipment to be wall or rack mounted in your main communications/phone room.

    • Wall Mount: Ensure the mounted backboard has a minimum of 3 x 4 feet space and is located in the equipment demarcation room. The mount must be capable of supporting 50 pounds and have a 3 foot clearance.
    • Rack Mount: If providing an equipment rack, a wall mount is not necessary; all hardware and terminations will be installed in rack. Please inform us of the rack size (i.e. 19 inch or 23 inch).
  3. Provide dedicated power outlet and common ground.
The termination electronics are powered by a customer-provided 120 VAC (20 Amp) circuit. Installation requires a dedicated and grounded three-prong electrical outlet. We recommends an Uninterruptable Power Supply (UPS) be used for our equipment (a UPS/surge protected outlet is strongly recommended).
  4. Complete inside wiring work.
Please ensure all inside wiring be completed at least 3 business days prior to the arrival of our installation technician. This includes the extension of wiring from the demarcation point to your suite or office location where the Ethernet service will be used. For more information on our inside wiring policy, see our Inside Wiring policy.
  5. Confirm Ethernet hand-off requirements.
We will provide a copper or optical termination as ordered. Options include standard RJ-45 Copper Ethernet connection, multimode or single mode fiber connections.
  6. Ensure Ethernet service connection to the Local Access Network (LAN).
Please make arrangements, if necessary, with your network technician/vendor to assist with configuration of your local access network.
